Peel lifeboat was called out yesterday after an emergency radio beacon was triggered.
The Frank and Brenda Winter launched at around 9am after the signal was discovered around 13 miles north-west from Peel.
Her volunteer crew took part in a three-hour search operation with a coastguard helicopter from Prestwick, but found only a large rubble bag in the water.
Volunteers coxswain Jon Corlett says although it turned to be a false alarm, the operation with the helicopter went smoothly.
