Just under one person a week is caught using their mobile phones behind the wheel.
The figures are revealed in response to a Freedom of Information request about how many people had broken the law.
The person behind the request asked how many prosecutions or fixed penalty notices there'd been for people using their phones while driving.
In response, the General Registry said there'd been 239 such cases in the last five years.
