Clarification on shop opening hours on Christmas day has been issued by the Office of Fair Trading.
The Shops Act 2000 says that essentially, every shop shall be closed for the serving of customers on 25 December.
The only exceptions to that rule are vendors of medicines and medical supplies, the sale of refreshments at hospitality venues, and goods purchasable at a place of amusement such as a theatre or cinema.
