OFT highlight two most high risk scams

The Office of Fair Trading has heralded a recent scam week initiative a major success.

During the week Consumer Advisers gave information to vulnerable members of the public, community groups and government officials on how to identify if you could be the victim of a scam.

The scheme was supported by the Isle of Man Constabulary.

As a result of the week its allowed the OFT to identify the two most popular scams doing the rounds.

You're urged to be on your guard if cold called by someone claiming to be from Microsoft Windows offering technical support with a computer virus. They request bank details as payment, with the consumer then finding their accounts cleared out.

They're also warning against bogus parcel delivery cards advising you of an impending parcel delivery with pickup to be arranged by calling premium rate phone number.

The overall message is, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
