Number of police searches rises by nearly 37 percent

The number of stop searches by police increased by more than a third in the past year.

Figures released in the chief constable's annual report show 1,448 people were searched between 2025 and 26.

That's up from 1,059 the year prior, representing a rise of 36.7 percent.

Police say as a result, the amount of stolen or prohibited items found on people has increased from 256 to 279 over the same period.
