New dyslexia policy goes out to consultation

The Department of Education and Children has put a new policy on dyslexia out to public consultation.

It is estimated that 10 per cent of children are dyslexic which means they often have trouble reading or writing.

The current policy for dyslexia dates back to 2002 but has been updated in line with current research.

It’s hoped that by following this new policy, teachers and parents will be able to improve the educational outcomes and life chances for dyslexic children by improving assessment and intervention practices in schools.

The closing date for comments is Friday, May 11th. You can find the consultation by clicking here.

The finalised policy and guidance notes will be in place by September.
