The Department of Infrastructure says it'll be gritting the Mountain Road this afternoon.
It took to Facebook, saying staff would salt the route from around 3.30pm in preparation for snow which is expected to fall later.
It says it wants to do the work as close to the snowfall as possible to stop windy conditions blowing the treatment away.
A yellow weather warning runs from 5pm for snow on higher ground this evening.
