Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse says his blushes could have been spared if a minister had contacted him earlier about a question in the House of Keys.
He asked Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford about plans to restrict the sale of nicotine patches to children - less than an hour before MHKs debated a new law to do just that.
Mr Moorhouse pressed ahead with his question, asking for more details about the involvement of the Office of Fair Trading and public health officials.
But he also complained Mr Ashford hadn't contacted him about the proposed legislation:
