Man caught 'drug driving' to be sentenced

A Kirk Michael man who was caught 'drug driving' despite having his eight-year-old daughter in the car will be sentenced in January.

Police stopped 49-year-old Andrew Lewis-Brew on Albert Road on the evening of September 6th after reports he was driving his car in an "erratic manner" on the Laxey to Ramsey Coast Road.

Officers saw him "veering about" in the roadway - when they spoke to him he was "confused and disorientated", his speech was slow and deliberate and at one point he was "closing his eyes and swaying".

He was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters where a quantity of cannabis was found concealed in his sock - two urine samples were taken which showed numerous prescription drugs in his system.

At Douglas Courthouse last week Lewis-Brew pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit and unlawful possession of a Class B substance - social enquiry reports have been requested before he's sentenced on January 19th.
