Major search after walker falls on Snaefell

A full scale search utilising all emergency services was launched yesterday after a walker fell on Snaefell.

The male, who is thought to be in his twenties, had fallen and injured his ankle, he was able to put the 999 call in at roughly 2pm.

However the search was made all the more difficult after his phone cut out before the operator could establish his location.

The Fire teams, Civil Defence, the Search and Rescue Dog and an RAF helicopter were all used in the search.

The male was located 50 minutes after the search commenced.

He was swiftly taken off the Mountain and transported to hospital, although his injuries appeared not to be serious, he was suffering from the effects of hypothermia.
