Last ditch attempt to avert industrial action fails

Renewed attempts to resolve the bus dispute have not worked and industrial action is now inevitable.

The Department of Community Culture and Leisure took a new proposal to the bus drivers’ today that had aimed to limit the impact of the savings on their wages.

They were proposing a range of efficiency gains, which ultimately weren't enough to sway the union.

The DCCL say they had particularly hoped to progress the drivers’ suggestion of changing sick pay entitlement, this too was ruled out.

The union stated their final position was that Treasury find the additional money needed.

The outcome of the meeting means strikes will still begin on Thursday, with alternative public transport and a number of non-union drivers drafted in to help maintain a regular service.
