Key information revealed in police officer court case

The trial continues at Bradford Crown Court

Some major details have been revealed in the trial of a UK policeman charged with causing the death of a Manx student by dangerous driving.

The jury heard that PC Rodney Mills was driving at nearly twice the speed limit with no police lights or siren when he collided with 19-year-old Jamie Haslett in the middle of the night.

Mr Mills was responding to silent 999 call and was on his way back to the station when he struck the Manx teenager who was crossing the road back to university accommodation at Sheffield Hallam.

The collision happened in the early hours of October 27, 2010.

Mr Mills denies causing death by dangerous driving. The trial continues at Bradford Crown Court today.
