Island's e-gaming progress outlined in Brussels

A senior government delegation met with e-gaming officials in Brussels recently to promote the Island's progress in the sector.

The visit was organised by Tynwald's permanent office in the city and enabled the party to meet with leading law-makers and European trade associations.

Government believes strengthening its presence in Belgium is key to expanding the Manx e-gaming industry as Brussels is the gateway to the 500 million-strong EU market.

E-gaming employs 700 people in the Island and accounts for eight per cent of the national GDP.

Steve Brennan, who formed part of the visiting group, said he was struck by the openness of the EU Commission's staff and their eagerness to work closely with the Isle of Man.

The head of e-gaming here, Tim Craine, also confirmed there are numerous follow-up events on the cards in the new year, including one at the European Parliament.
