Is Douglas absorbing too much of regeneration fund?

The Infrastructure Minister has defended figures that show Douglas is absorbing the vast majority of the island’s regeneration fund.

Speaking to 3FM, David Cretney said he made it absolutely clear that this was a project to regenerate commercial areas around the island and that Douglas is pivotal to this.

The Upper Nelson Street pilot scheme paving works were completed at a cost of £290,000, work on Prospect Hill has cost £95,000, with highway maintenance costing £35,000.

He added that work on the town centre had been long overdue, but insisted this wouldn’t mean other towns would miss out on the £8million pot.
