Injured female rescued under tough conditions

Rescue teams scrambled to rescue fallen walker from stream with suspected spinal injuries

A large scale rescue operation was launched yesterday following a 999 call where it was reported that a female had fallen and suffered suspected spinal injuries at Glen Rushen.

The Fire and Rescue Service sent specialist personnel with rope and water rescue training to assist the ambulance crews at the scene.

The teams were guided to the scene by a number of local off road motorcyclists.

The casualty had fallen 3 to 5 metres whilst on a family walk, landing in a stream; they were complaining of back pain whilst slipping in and out of consciousness.

Despite it not being easy for the rescue teams given the tricky terrain and lack of radio signal the casualty was eventually transported to an Ambulance and taken to Nobles for assessment and treatment.

The emergency services have praised the major community effort, which made the rescue possible.
