Fire Service asks for private sector support

Businesses and organisations are being asked to help financially support the Fire and Rescue Service in delivering safety campaigns.

It's after the announcement that free fire alarms are being scrapped as part of a budget slashing exercise.

The news has sparked a mixed reaction from the public - writing on our Facebook page Lisa says they are stopping something that could save lives.

Dan says the majority of alarms that are fitted are for elderly people and the emergency services are not the place to be making cuts.

However Emma says they aren't expensive and people should buy their own - Stuart agrees and says it isn't the job of government to provide free alarms.

The Fire and Rescue Service says it would like to find sponsors or partnerships to help meet the financial burden of supplying safety equipment and campaigns.
