Drivers asked to be careful around Parish walkers

Drivers are being asked to take extra care today as nearly 2,000 people take part in the Manx Telecom Parish Walk, especially considering the wet conditions.

Yesterday’s torrential rain caused flooding in some parts of the Island and there were numerous reports of pedestrians’ safety being put in danger by careless driving.

Road conditions are still poor and there’s lots of lying water on and around roads which can be extremely dangerous.

The Road Safety Team says the worst affected areas are the Fairy Bridge, Sulby Straight, Ballacriy, Jurby Coast and Dhoon.

Ballagawne Road and Grenaby are also understood to very bad.

Inspector Derek Flint of the police force told us more (see audio).
