Douglas regeneration work on course

Two major projects forming part of the Douglas Regeneration scheme have been successfully completed.

The paving work on Upper Nelson Street came in at a cost of just under £300,000, with the street lightening funded by Douglas Corporation completed last week.

A second regeneration scheme on Prospect Hill began last month and also finished last week at a total cost of £95,000 including £35,000 highway maintenance works.

These works were completed two weeks behind schedule because of the poor condition of Buck’s Road-bound carriageway, which was then reconstructed at the same time.

The next phase of regeneration works will take place on Lower Nelson Street in April.

Infrastructure Minister David Cretney said the work and design provided Douglas with a "bespoke, modern, high-quality public realm design, which would act as the prototype for the regeneration of Douglas town centre”.
