Deputy Mayoress Passes Away in Hospice

Dot Pitts Passes Away Following Lengthy Battle With Cancer

Tributes have been pouring in for Dot Pitts, the former Mayor Douglas who passed away today at the Hospice.

She'd been battling cancer for some time.

The current Mayor Ritchie McNicholl has called her a marvel and said throughout her time suffering with illness he never once heard her complain.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney described her as truly inspirational to all who came into contact with her, he issued this statement paying tribute to her:

'Although Dot was very ill during her time as Mayor she carried her duties out with energy, dignity and good humour raising many thousands of pounds for her chosen charities.

She had served as a Town Councillor for St George’s Ward and was a very caring, family-orientated person.

Married for over 30 years to Stephen she leaves children Debbie, Nicola, Stephen and Frankie, 2 sisters Irene and Sandra and mum Vera.  She was a very special Nana and loved and was loved by all the little ones who brought her much joy even in the last few days when she celebrated Christmas at the Hospice alongside her close family and friends and the Mayor of Douglas.  This was always her most favourite time of the year and knew that she would not be likely to see this Christmas.

She was a wonderful host and her cooking and baking skills legendary, both at her home and also feeding fellow marshals during TT and MGP races at Rhen Cullen.

She fought a very brave fight and will be missed by many, most particularly her family with whom our thoughts are with at this sad time.'
