Cyclists bound by same road rules as everyone else, says police

Cyclists have been reminded by the police that they are bound by the same rules everyone else adheres to when using open roads.

Two incidents were reported yesterday, leading the police to issue the message on their social media pages.

The first incident involved a group of riders who weren't very visible in a misty area; cyclists are reminded to use lights, reflectors and high visability clothing when riding in these conditions.

A second complaint revolved around the conduct of some cyclists who allegedly swore at children who were leading horses across the road at the time of a race on open roads.

They were said to not only put themselves at risk, but also the children and the animals.

Police have asked that proper courtesy should be given to other road users.
