In total about 7,000 athletes and support staff from 71 nations are in the Indian capital for the 19th staging of the Games.
The Island’s team are raring to go despite being rocked by injury in the past week, with two hopefuls from the Gymnastics squad ruling themselves out of the games following injuries in training, they also lost the Kennaugh brothers from the cycling team who both withdrew for personal reasons.
This afternoon’s spectacular ceremony comes following major concerns that the games would go ahead at all, following major issues with the athletes village and the events security.
The event kicks off tomorrow with the Island’s Archery squad in action.
The ceremony will get underway at 2.30 our time.
