Census results reveal numbers boost

Detailed figures from the census have revealed a 5.5% increase in the population with the figure now standing at 84,500.

Of these, 48% are Manx-born with England being the second-most at 36% Ireland 4% and Scotland at 3.2.

The number of people born outside of the British Isles and Ireland has now risen to 7.5%.

The number in employment rose to 43,134, leaving the number unemployed at just less than 1,500.

With more than 1,400, the most common age of a Manx resident is 47 while there were 144 people aged 95 or above.

The full Census Report 2011 will be laid before the April sitting of Tynwald and will be publicly available at that time.
