Cash by post loopholes to be exposed in consultation

The issue of sending large amounts of cash to or from the Island is set to come under scrutiny in a new consultation put forward by the Treasury.

The consultation looks to amend the existing law and require the declaration of large sums of cash being sent or received in the mail.

It has all come about following a recommendation made by the International Monetary Fund following a visit to the Island in 2008.

The existing system was deemed to have an easily exploitable loophole.

The consultation period will run today to the 30th January.

Responses should be sent to:  Ray Todd, Manager, LLCS, The Treasury, Customs and Excise Division, PO Box 6, Custom House, North Quay, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM99 1AG, email customs@gov.im
