Ben my Chree to be dry docked from 16th to 18th December

A combination of prolonged adverse weather and the lack of a second bow thrust have been cited as the main reasons for the high level of cancellations recently experienced by the Ben my Chree.

Chief Executive of the Steam Packet Mark Woodward said the period of constant gale and severe gale force winds have made matters worse, however with a fully operational ship they wouldn't have had to cancel this amount of crossings.

Pressure has been put on manufacturer Wartsila to urgently repair, rebuild and re-deliver the replacement bow thrust.

It's now been confirmed that the piece of equipment will be ready by 14th December with the vessel going into dry dock from the 16th to the 18th.

Manannan will be used during this period operating a single daily crossing to the UK, aswell as the trip to Dublin on the 17th.

All of today's crossings have been cancelled bar the evening sailing, an update on that route will come later on today.
