£21 million Douglas Promenade refurbishment plans unveiled

Bold plans have been unveiled for the redevelopment of Douglas Promenade.

The proposals feature modern design concepts and an innovative new layout taking inspiration from busy roads in London and across Europe.

The horse trams would be moved to a single track set up alongside the walkway of the southern end of the promenade, moving to beside the pavement on the northern end; this alone will cost an estimated £3.5 million.

The scheme is focussed on improving traffic flow, and whilst slower driving speeds will be encouraged traffic signals and zebra crossings will be removed to eliminate the 'stop-start' effect on traffic.

Subject to planning approval the £21 million scheme would commence work in November, with it estimated to take between three to five years for completion.
