1.2% pay award secured for civil service

It's been revealed that following negotiations with the Government Officers' Association a 1.2% pay award for the Civil Service for the year 2011/12 has been implemented.

Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Alf Cannan MHK, has said following negotiations we have been able to reach at a settlement at a manageable level.

He concedes however that it will impose an additional burden on Government, and could result in the need for staff reductions.

The Michael MHK has said although it may not be universally welcomed, it is preferable to secure agreement through negotiation, rather than allow the matter to be determined outside the Commission's control.
