January will see the start of works on a 500 metre stretch of wall along the Douglas seafront.
It's part of a major overhaul which will see the existing railings removed and the wall built in its place in an effort to provide a more effective defence against wave overtopping, and the impact that can have on the roads.
The wall will be built 1.2 metres high, which will still enable people to enjoy the views out to sea from the Promenade.
A condition of the contract is for the contractor to maintain public access past the work site along the Promenade walkway whilst the works are ongoing.
The wall will run from a point just south of the Douglas War Memorial on Harris Promenade to a point opposite the Empress Hotel on Central Promenade.
