Work permits no longer needed for Secondary School teachers?

The Department of Economic Development is bringing forward an order which if approved would see secondary school teachers exempt from needing work permits.

They'd join the list alongside doctors and dentists, removing the bureaucracy that has often proved the deciding factor if a teacher was able to gain full time employment here.

The Department is moving ahead with the order in an effort to address a growing recruitment problem shared between the Island's secondary schools.

DED has confirmed there isn't a high proportion of out of work local high school teachers, so they are hopeful this latest development will not result in jobs being taken away from Manx workers.

Minister John Shimmin said he feels satisfied that the exemption will be in the Island's best interests.
