87 Year Old Died As A Result Of Her Injuries Following A Fall From Her Hospital Bed
The Coroner of Inquests delivered a verdict of accidental
death today in the case of 87-year-old Joan Terry.
Joan died on the 27th January 2010 the day after
falling from her bed on ward 8 at Nobles Hospital.
She sustained a combination of nasty injuries including
facial lacerations, multiple rib fractures and bleeding in the pelvis area and
around her left hip.
Mrs Terry was described as a challenging patient, who had a
history of falls and during her time in hospital a reputation for refusing
treatments and never requesting help or assistance.
The issue of bed railings was brought into focus during the
inquest, Nurses had put Mrs Terry’s railings up to stop her falling out of the
bed, however the inquest revealed that it's thought she fell whilst trying to climb over them.
