Tynwald report concludes Island should get more for their TV licence fee money

The report indicates the Island loses out roughly £1m a year in the deal.

Tynwald yesterday vowed to keep the TV licence on the proviso they begin to get more services from the BBC.

A report into the matter of value for money for licence payers was commissioned 18 months ago.

A committee was set up in 2009 to investigate if the Island and its resident are getting a good return on the £145.50 a year spent on licence fees.

Instead of scrapping the licence fee altogether they’re saying the corporation should provide more services to the Island and locally licensed broadcasters.

The findings will now be looked at further by the Council of Ministers before they’re brought before Tynwald again in January of next year.
