Steam Packet voice wind farm concerns

The Steam Packet have voiced their concerns about the planned wind farm construction in the Irish Sea.

They say the developments could threaten the future of the Liverpool route, reduce TT services and lead to higher levels of cancellations.

Centrica's plans to develop wind farms will impede on both the existing Heysham and Liverpool routes.

The Steam Packet say it would lead to an extra 15 minutes on the winter service to Birkenhead, making it physically impossible to operate.

They're urging Centrica to develop the wind farms around these long established shipping lanes, something they say was originally promised some 18 months ago.

Steam Packet Chief Executive, Mark Woodward said, ‘We hope that Centrica agrees that what is now required is an open, transparent and constructive two-way dialogue. We cannot allow a single agenda issue to overrule the Islands wider transport needs.'
