Seabirds dead in oil contamination

20 dead so far and over 50 needing emergency treatment

MSPCA workers and volunteers have rescued dozens of Guillemot sea birds around the south and west of the Isle Of Man this weekend after the birds were discovered covered in oil.

Areas affected so far include Peel, the Glen Maye coastal area and Port Erin where around two dozen birds have been collected so far.

The affected seabirds have been taken for treatment at MSPCA headquarters in Foxdale.

Jenny Corrin works at the MSPCA, she told 3FM that the Guillemots have died after ingesting the oil whilst grooming themselves, she also said they've had a major clean up operation tending to over 50 birds.
