Ramsey Commissioners says it doesn’t want a tarmac road bump to become a permanent feature in the town.
The road surface on Parliament Street is currently made up of granite which is starting to crack and the local authority claims the Department of Infrastructure doesn’t have any of the replacement slabs on the Island.
Clerk Tim Cowin says the tarmac isn’t ‘in keeping’ with the area and there needs to be a ‘permanent’ fix:
The Department of Infrastructure says: ‘This is a temporary fix that could be applied quickly (in a day) and cause minimum disruption for business and the public. We are currently looking at design options to permanently repair both this ramp and another suffering similar issues. We want to make sure that both ramps are not prone to a repeat of the deterioration previously experienced. The ramp was getting in a worse condition and it wasn’t prudent to wait until a permanent solution could be delivered.’
