An R-plate driver who hit 70mph over the Mountain Road has been ordered to keep his plates on for an extra six months.
Declan Owen Coney of Palatine Road in Douglas admitted doing more than the permitted 50mph on R-plates when he appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon said police had followed Coney’s red Ford Fiesta as he overtook a line of cars at Windy Corner at 70mph and issued a fixed penalty notice after they stopped him.
However, he hadn’t paid the ticket, and so had been summonsed to court.
Magistrates fined him £200 and ordered him to pay £50 costs as well as extending his R- plate period for six months and putting three penalty points on his licence.
