A public consultation has opened aiming to modernise laws around contempt of court, particularly around the use of social media.
The Justice Reform Amendment and Contempt of Court Bill 2025 covers sharing information posted online that could jeopardise court cases.
It would also make photography in court an offence.
Penalties include up to six months in jail or up to two years' custody in higher courts - the consultation is now open for public feedback here.
