Those Using Fireworks Asked to Adhere to the Code For Their Own Safety
The Fire Service are urging the public to be safe, not sorry this Bonfire Night, and follow the Firework Code.
As part of a major drive promoting safety the emergency services have specifically targeted under 18's, as figures show that over half of firework related injuries year on year happen to that age group.
Figures of incidents have seen a general decline over the past few years on the Island but the Fire Service have said they will not get complacent and continue to hammer the message home.
When planning a fireworks display you're asked to take into account you're surroundings and have enough space to set the fireworks off safely.
When transporting fireworks you're advised to keep them in a metal box, and at no time should they be kept in your pocket.
Once lit you should never immediately return to the firework, even if it hasn't gone off it could still explode.
Children should always be supervised at the displays, and sparklers should not be handed out to under-5s.
Anyone wanting further advice is asked to contact the Fire Safety Team on 647300.
