Probation for fisherman who became disorderly at restaurant

A fisherman from Douglas has been told he should be ashamed of his behaviour after being arrested at a family restaurant.

40-year-old Lee Scott, of Murrays Road, was picked up by police at Barbary Coast on November 18th for being drunk and disorderly.

Scott was asked to leave the restaurant on North Quay at 5pm after becoming rude and 'belligerent' to both staff and patrons - however he refused to do so.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday Scott admitted the offence - his advocate said he'd had too much to drink adding: "He's ashamed of his behaviour."

The court heard Scott had a 'significant gambling addiction' that he'd struggled with for over 25 years - on the day in question he'd put £800 into the gambling machine at the venue.

Imposing a nine month Probation Order, and nine month licensing ban, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: "I accept you're ashamed of your behaviour - you should be."

Scott also has to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
