Police warning over 'smishing' scam

Fraudsters are duping people by sending text messages from numbers that appear to be genuine - the texts then 'piggyback' onto an existing, and genuine, conversation thread. 

 

The messages ask for account details or for people to click on a link - officers are advising people not to do either. 

 

They say scammers are taking advantage of busy people and are urging them to stop and properly consider whether something is legitimate before responding.
