Bridge Taken Out of Action For Emergency Repairs
A Peel footbridge constructed only 4 years back has already showed failings leading to emergency work and a bridge closure.
Work on the bridge started this morning; it has to be lifted onto East Quay Pier so the damaged rear bearings can be replaced.
When the bridge was built in 2006 it was thought the structure would be able to withstand the elements for a lifetime, however it has damaged rear bearings.
The Works team have said the bearings will be sent off to experts to determine if the manufacturers can be held accountable.
MHK Graham Cregeen has labelled it totally unacceptable.
