The Office of Fair Trading has issued a warning against the selling of small domestic animals such as puppies or kittens through local 'classified' online adverts.
The advertisements claim to be offering the animals free of charge – which is a way to draw the attention of those looking for a pet.
However, it goes on to say that the owner lives off-Island and is ill and, whilst the animal itself is not being sold, money will need to be paid to arrange for the animal to be transported.
The OFT say it understands that the animal advertised does not exist.
Itadvises against anyone buyingpets from off-Island via an online advert and do not pay any money up front.
There's more information on the OFT website.
