Each year 8 people are chosen to take to the course, on bikes, before any competitors to make sure it's clear and that the circuit is ready for a practice or race to commence.

The highly experienced bikers play a vital role in the event as they are first on the scene to crashes.

Dick Cassidy is the number 1 Chief Travelling Marshal.

TT 2010 marks his 29th year in the job.

He told us he took a year out in the 1970's but never returned and instead took to marshalling.
