One System Introduced on Strand Street Following High Number of Pedestrian Collisions
In a joint initiative between the Manx Constabulary and Department of Transport a new initiative is to be launched next week, which will be sure to cause a stir.
In an effort to alleviate over crowding on Strand Street during peak times a one way pedestrian system has been introduced.
The one-way system will be in force each Saturday between the hours of 12 and 3 and will mean the public will only be able to walk down the street toward the Strand Shopping Centre.
DOT officials have said although it may initially prove unpopular the measure has been introduced with public safety in mind following a number of near serious pedestrian collisions.
Strand Street Shoppers will now have to walk back along the prom when accessing the top end of the street.
Anybody caught breaking the rules will receive a spot £30 fine and be required to attend DOT led workshops on walking responsibly.
