New eyecare strategy due this summer

A new eyecare strategy for the Isle of Man is being drawn up and could be rolled out by the summer. 

That's according to the Health and Social Care Minister who told the House of Keys this week progress is being made. 

Kate Beecroft revealed 2/3 of patients with Macular Disease are now being treated on the Island - the remainder attend hospitals in the UK: 

She said 66 patients are continuing to receive treatment at Aintree - some of those through choice - and 120 patients are treated at that UK hospital for other diseases of the retina.
