New Eco Friendly DAFF HQ Recieves Top Honour

The new headquarters for Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry currently under construction at St John's has been awarded an excellent rating under BREEAM - the highest rating possible.

BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method and has been given to the building due to work thats gone into making it an environmentally friendly property.

Natural Ventilation and a lighting system which changes itself to suit the natural light coming in means that after only 12 years the building will have already paid for itself.

  The building is heated by a biomass boiller utilisting woodchips produced by the Sawmill together with waste sawdust.
