Residents will now get notified in writing when a neighbouring property is seeking planning permission.
The move came into effect in January as part of the government's Built Environment Reform Programme.
It's part of a number of improvements following a public consultation, with staffing, training and the planning website to be reviewed.
The way planning applications are dealt with, fees and IT systems will also be examined.
