MIchael housing development plans scrapped

Michael MHK Alf Cannan has welcomed the news that plans for a major housing development for Kirk Michael has been denied by an independent inspector.

Heritage Homes had wanted to build 100 properties on a patch of land at Douglas Road Corner.

Villagers initially flagged up concern when it was revealed the estate would require a section of the local school's playing field to be utilised as an access route.

Road access to the development became the sticking point with the inspector, with firm plans regarding a bypass needing to be in place before any such project could be undertaken.

Mr Cannan branded the news a victory for the villagers who fought a well structured campaign to have the plans scrapped.

He said villagers and the commissioners now need to take a close look at the village in order to plan its development for the future.
