Manx Team Will Still Head To Delhi For Commonwealth Games

Major Troubles Threaten to Derail Commonwealth Games

The isle of man still intent to take part in the Commonwealth Games despite health and safety concerns at the athletes village.

With 11 days to go before the start of the Commonwealth Games in India, the
event's in danger of descending into chaos.

We're just hearing from Commonwealth Games officials that the Games' chief is rushing to New Delhi for an emergency visit.

Scotland have just this morning announced that they are delaying sending a team to India and World triple jump champion Phillips Idowu has pulled out of England's team  over security fears

President of the Commonwealth games here told 3FM at this stage Team Isle of Man still intend to travel to India at the weekend but like the other Home nations will take lead from the Commonwealth Games Federation.

While many nations have said their accommodation is 'unliveable' a representative from the Island who is there said the accommodation for Manx competitors is almost complete, they added that there are some minor Health & Safety issues but in general it is acceptable.

Tonia Lushington, Chef de Mission for Team Isle of Man at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, has reported from Delhi that the Isle of Man team accommodation is almost complete and its furniture is in place.

The dining facilities are excellent, the transport mall is ready with 100’s of buses and the venues are good. Security is in place.

Tonia Lushington said 'The IOM advanced team have not seen the areas highlighted by today’s reports and therefore are unable to comment. We hope that the standard of accommodation will be greatly improved before the athletes arrive in the Games Village, so that all those attending the Games can enjoy the experience.'
