Man who threatened nurse walks free after serving sentence on remand

A man who threatened to kill a nurse has walked free from court after serving his prison sentence on remand.

Ryan Reid of Eskdale Road in Onchan appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse via a live video link from the Isle of Man prison.

He’d pleaded guilty to using provoking behaviour and criminal damage at the Ellan Vannin Hotel in Douglas on May 17.

The court heard Reid, who works for an Island cleaning firm, was drunk when he responded violently to a complaint about noise coming from his room.

He banged on a door and threatened the nurse, who was on the Island to help the Manx NHS during the Covid pandemic.

Later, the 35 year old threatened the hotel manager and his son before smashing up items in his room after he was asked to leave.

Magistrates jailed him for a total of 14 days – but he was released from custody because he’d already served 21 days in prison.

Reid was also ordered to pay £125 costs and £60 compensation to the hotel.
