Man warned his next crime could see him jailed

A man’s been warned his next crime could see him jailed after he admitted an unprovoked attack on a 14 year old boy, assaulting his partner and being in a stolen van.

Simon David Lomax of Tromode House in Douglas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

At an earlier hearing, the 40 year old pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and one of being a passenger in a stolen vehicle.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court Lomax had been one of two men who attacked the boy on Sidney Street in Douglas on August 14 last year – the boy fought back and threw Lomax to the ground.

On August 25, he fled the scene after the stolen van he was inside was blocked by its owner when he spotted it on the New Castletown Road.

Lomax was later arrested after he asked a woman to provide an alibi for him and she rang police.

On March 6 this year, the court heard he punched his girlfriend in the face as they walked along Demesne Road, and a member of the public dialled 999.

His advocate told the hearing Lomax was an alcoholic who was easily led by others but was now trying to seek help for his problems.

Magistrates jailed him for six months, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £100 costs as well as £50 compensation to the teenager.
