Man jailed for two years after violent argument

A 23-year-old man has been jailed for almost two years after an argument in which he kicked a woman's front teeth out.

Jamie Mcardle had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of ABH, one of criminal damage and possessing cannabis from January 11th.

He was at a house in Onchan when an argument broke out in the early hours - after leaving he smashed a window with a knuckleduster and grabbed a woman by her hair pulling her towards it.

He then re-entered the house and pulled the woman to the floor kicking and punching her - her friend who tried to intervene was kicked in the face causing her to lose two teeth.

Representing Mcardle his advocate said it was an "ugly incident" which he had "little or no recollection of" - however he accepted he caused injury and was "remorseful and ashamed".

Deemster Montgomerie described it as a "horrendous set of circumstances" - referencing Mcardle's previous convictions he said he was "somebody who's just giving two fingers to the law".

Passing sentence he said Mcardle needed to address his behaviour saying "there's a bright outlook if he gets off cannabis, prescription drugs and alcohol - if he doesn't there's a very dark outlook".

Mcardle was jailed for 21 months in total - 20 months for each ABH charge, which will run concurrently alongside three months for criminal damage, plus one month for the drugs charge.
